COVID-19 vaccination onboarding simplified

COVID-19 vaccination onboarding update

Te Whatu Ora | Health NZ has released updated guidance to support providers offering COVID-19 vaccination. From 1 July 2026, COVID-19 vaccine administration is included within the PHOSA and ICPSA contracts, removing the need for a separate COVID-19 vaccination contract for participating providers.

The updated guidance also reflects changes to the COVID-19 vaccination programme, including simplified vaccine preparation for most people aged 12 years and over, updated onboarding requirements, and information on vaccine ordering, claiming and consumer resources.

Key points for providers

Providers offering COVID-19 vaccination should:

  • complete the required IMAC COVID-19 Vaccinator training before commencing vaccination

  • contact their Regional Approver to complete the onboarding process and gain access to the Health NZ Inventory Management System (IMS)

  • ensure COVID-19 vaccination is included in their cold chain policy and that sufficient fridge capacity is available

  • update their Healthpoint listing (and Book My Vaccine, where applicable) to show COVID-19 vaccination services

  • continue recording vaccinations as usual, with administration fees triggered through AIR.

COVID-19 vaccination remains an important part of protecting people at higher risk of severe illness, particularly older adults and those with underlying health conditions. Providers interested in offering COVID-19 vaccination are encouraged to refer to the attached FAQs for full onboarding guidance and implementation details.
