Positive COVID-19 patients. All claiming options require additional eligibility. Please see the claiming criteria outlined below. Claiming guidelines All services are provided at no cost to the patient. If the claim cannot be funded by this service, the patient may be liable to the practice for the fees incurred. Prices are GST inclusive. Please make your claim via Primary Options by selecting Positive COVID-19 Care and then attaching the following invoices as appropriate. No simultaneous claiming against any other funding stream can be made. Proactive initial assessments Proactive initial assessments are only funded for those who are eligible for anti-viral medications . This funding includes the cost of initiating/prescribing antiviral medications. Please indicate in your clinical notes which of the eligibility criteria the patient meets. Positive COVID-19 community care – proactive initial: $103.50 Positive COVID-19 community care – proactive initial A/H $155.25 Please note that while there is additional funding for care provided after hours, most care is intended to be undertaken during business working hours (weekdays) with after hours and weekend assessments based on specified clinical need. Please ensure your notes indicate the date/time of day for any after-hours claims. Pharmacy anti-viral support Funding to enable prescribers to support pharmacists with the provision of anti-viral medications. This must be pharmacy initiated. Pharmacy anti-viral support $43.12 All of these invoices are packages of care i.e. they include allocation for staff time as well as consumables, they cannot be claimed along with any other claims.

Practices are required to provide sufficiently detailed consultation notes to determine appropriate use of funding. It has been recommended that in addition to a good assessment and history, the full range of appropriate observations should be documented. It is important to state the time of consultations and interactions with the patient. Please indicate in your clinical notes which of the eligibility criteria the patient meets, as well as documenting their symptoms/condition. Please ensure your notes indicate the date/time of day for any after-hours claims. Does the patient have to pay? There is to be no co-payment charge to the patient.

Once the episode of care is completed and the patient is no longer acutely unwell, they exit the programme. Once the patient exits the programme, the case requires a clinical outcome to be lodged. No payment can be made for any claims unless the outcome is completed.

The service is funded by Te Whatu Ora. Additional information A claim can be submitted for each eligible person in a household who is COVID-19 positive, including probable cases. After-hours is considered as Monday-Thursday between 8pm-8am, 5pm Friday-8am Monday and any public holiday. Claims can be made for consultations undertaken by any virtual means including telephone/video/text/patient portal. Contact must be made with the patient and the assessment documented. Primary care prescriber advice required by pharmacy, to enable pharmacy initiated anti-viral assessment and supply is aimed to support pharmacists in managing more complex patients, where people have limited knowledge of their health conditions and do not have access to a patient portal, rather than the pharmacist consult becoming a re-direct of the patient to primary care.
